A number of threads around local democracy are coming together. A new administration has been elected to Forest Row Parish Council. Some of the councillors have connections to XR. The Humanity Project is being rolled out across the country. The ideas of “flatpack democracy” inspired both the Forest Row changes and are central to the Humanity Project. These developments offer a possibility of more effective local democracy and XR should be participating fully.
As part of this engagement, we need to speak to people in the community. Brenda paid a visit to Second Life in Forest Row. She found a very progressive organisation that is helping in many ways. Providing a path for used goods and clothes to find new owners helps drive down consumption and reduce waste. Second Life uses its revenue to provide grants to local charities.
Housing is an important issue for the area. There are four sites that are attracting attention: The former Co-op, Hartfield Road Church, former Ashdown School and the former Rydon building. The future of these sites would be appropriate for a Pop.
Also discussed, Chris Packham’s excellent documentary “Is it Time to Break the Law?”. This is available on catch up.
